India’s New Pace Generation: The Next Big Strength
India’s pace bowling is at an interesting turning point. Jasprit Bumrah remains the spearhead, but around him a wider group is emerging: Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and others. This depth gives India options across formats, but it also creates a selection and workload-management challenge. Domestic cricket and India A tours are helping bowlers build red-ball stamina, while the IPL offers white-ball exposure. The key task is to define clear roles: Bumrah and Arshdeep for death overs, Siraj for the new ball, Prasidh and Harshit for Test-style long spells, and Mayank or Umran as express-pace options. Fitness and workload monitoring will be decisive. India must avoid over-dependence on one bowler and ensure that young pacers are given consistent opportunities, clear communication and protection from injury. If the system works, India’s pace battery can become its biggest strength across formats.
